We had the privilege to spend the last three weeks (Feb. 19 – Mar. 7, 2018) of our clinical rotation in one of the five Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited hospitals in the Philippines, Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC). We are the pioneer batch of student nurses who were allowed to have our hospital duties there – we made history in both SISC Nursing and AHMC.

The AHMC personnel gave us a very warm welcome and a great experience all through out. Dr. Nico Añonuevo, along with our clinical instructors, Mr. Aldrin Dabu, Ms. Angelica Eballar, and our preceptors in each ward, exerted all their effort to make sure that we maximized our learning experience and received the best treatment. As undergraduate students, our scope of nursing practice during our AHMC rotation was limited to shadowing the staff nurses and our preceptor. Even with this reasonable limitation, we were still able to learn a lot more than we expected. They made us feel as though we were already working there, and even assured that they would offer us jobs when we get licensed – they made us feel like we were a part of their AHMC family.
The whole hospital was a new environment to us. Everything that they do is ideal. We were able to appreciate how it is like to have duty in a hospital that renders nothing but the best quality of care to their clients. We were able to learn new patient cases, technology, and different international standards in terms of charting, giving medications, providing care to patients, and much more. In a short period of time, we were able to acquire a lot of new information.

It was truly an honor to spend our final clinical rotation as student nurses in a hospital like AHMC. All thanks to Dean Carmel and the rest of the nursing faculty. Fortunately, it seemed that the best was saved for last.
