The Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) team from Grade 12 – Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) took first place in the business case presentation competition held at De La Salle University (DLSU) recently. Comprised of Sharina Ahmed, Christian Chia, Pola Cueto, Rance Llovido, Sid Espinosa, Elizabeth Burigsay and Derick Salvoro, the team presented their champion idea for sustaining and expanding a sole proprietorship business structure.
They competed against teams from other Metro Manila-based schools who participated in the Future Lasallians Camp 2018. The event was managed and organized by DLSU for senior high school students who are contemplating a career path in business. The participants attended seminars in marketing, finance, accountancy, applied corporate management, legal management, and business management before they break out into groups for the business case presentation which SISC won.
Southville ABM students are trained for the rigors of running a business. Last year, Grade 12 students held their Christmas Bazaar. The activity is an integral part of the SISC business curriculum which provides students with the
opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom on running a business, and
become “their own boss.” It is a major requirement in the business subjects, credited as the students’
authentic assessment grade. The students created an original business concept, developed a business plan, and
prepared a detailed plan of tasks to be done at the bazaar. The students took responsibility of all
aspects of their businesses including purchasing, production, setup, pricing, and promotion. After the
event, the students wrote a reflective final report analyzing what they have learned during the
project.
