Dear Students,
Thank you for taking on the challenges of online learning head-on. As midterm exams just finished last week, please expect to see your grades in Pinnacle in the next two weeks (unless your midterm assessments were given an extension in submission). Please also note that next week (Holy Week) is not part of our Academic Calendar so no classes will be held at that time. You have the whole week off to rest, spend quality time with your family, and for self-reflection.
We are now on our Final Term and with the help of different online platforms, we are not behind in the academic calendar — those who are graduating will still be graduating on time, provided they submit all requirements. Similarly, all undergraduate students will still get to enjoy a Summer break before the 1st semester commences on the last week of July.
We are trying to make online learning less stressful through streamlined projects and extended deadlines. Your teachers are practicing leniency when they can. To make online learning a little bit lighter, I would like to share the following online learning tips:
Online Learning Tips
1. Make a daily schedule and establish routines.
2. Identify a comfortable, quiet space in your home (preferably with the strongest network signal) where you can work effectively and successfully.
3. Prepare and set-up the device at least 10-15 minutes before the scheduled online class.
4. If the internet connection is limited, here are steps to save data:
To change your video resolution when using Meet on your computer:
1. In a web browser, open https://meet.google.com/.
2. Click Settings and select Network.
3. Choose a setting you want to change:
Send resolution—The image quality from your device that others see.
Receive resolution—The image quality that you see from other participants.
4. Click Done.
Send resolution (maximum)
High Definition (720p)—(Available on computers with a quad-core CPU or higher) Uses more data, but your camera will send a better quality picture.
Standard Definition (360p)—Uses less data, but your camera will send a lower quality picture.
Receive resolution (maximum)
High Definition (720p)—(Available on computers with a quad-core CPU or higher) Uses more data, but you see a higher quality picture.
Standard Definition (360p)—Uses less data, but you see a lower quality picture.
Standard Definition (360p) – single feed—To save more data, the other participants’ thumbnails turn off.
5. Check your email, MOODLE, group chat, etc. for lessons you missed if you were not able to attend your online class.
6. Complete academic tasks/work with integrity and honesty. Use the official SGEN email account all the time.
7. Do your best to meet commitments and deadlines.
8. Follow online etiquette and be a responsible digital citizen.
9. Inform your Teacher, Coordinator, or Dean if you have any concerns as soon as possible so that support may be provided.
10. Mentoring and consultation sessions are ongoing. Please just reach out to your Mentor, Coordinator, or Dean so that the session(s) that you need may be scheduled.
I know all Monarchs are resilient and are armed with the 5Cs. Through tough times like this one, it’s your CHARACTER that is revealed. So thank you to those who took on this unexpected change without hesitation — you earned my respect.
