Basic Ed Landslide Wins Abroad

Senior Earns Recognition in Global Short Story Contests

A Grade 12 student from Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) was selected as one of the winners at the recently concluded Future Folklore: Climate Fiction Contest conducted by the U.S.-based Stories to Change the World Publishing. Io Carpiso’s short story entitled Bayanihan in Redux is one of the ten Special Selection awardees out of 204 entries. The speculative fiction contest imagines a world where climate change initiatives have been set in motion to respond to the climate crisis. Carpiso’s story was chosen for its creativity and writing strength, and will be published in the illustrated eBook anthology of the shortlisted and prizewinning competition pieces from entries across the globe.

4th Grader Wins International Competitions

A Grade 4 student brought home medals from the recent Get the Beat International Dance Competition. Isra Kristen Luya won Platinum Awards in the Petite Category of Classical Ballet and Musical Theatre in the event joined by amateur dancers from Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., Asia and Africa. Luya also got a Silver Award in the Final Round of the 2020-2021 Hong Kong International Science Olympiad. The online competition is held annually around the world and consists of four main categories namely Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Integrated Science.

Student Wins Two Awards in Performing Arts

A junior high school student was recognized with two awards for excellence in the performing arts. Amelia Ann Fe James from Grade 9 – Harmony danced her way to a Platinum Award in Contemporary Dance at the 2021 Get the Beat International Dance Competition. She competed against other amateur dancers from Australia, New Zealand and Asia in the 13-14 years old category.

James also bagged a Silver Award in the Vocal Solo competition of the Asia Pacific International Arts Festival. She showcased her talent in the 13-14 years old category featuring contestants from China, Indonesia, Korea, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.

Monarchs Win Awards at 2021 Model United Nations

Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) students from Grades 9 to 12 bagged awards and won chair positions in the 2021 Model United Nations (MUN) Locals Conference held virtually last October 8-9, 2021. Park Si Hyun and Cho Woo Sung of Gr. 10 – Commitment, Jaeda Johnson of Gr. 12 – Diplomacy, and Choi Eun Jae of International Baccalaureate (IB) 2 were chosen Best Delegates while Hwang Yi Lynn of Gr. 10 – Commitment was named Best Speaker. 

Elected to serve as Chair of their committees were Park Hyuk Jin of Gr. 12 – Diplomacy,Tyrulf Ekberg and Neel Sharma of IB 1, and Park Junyeong of IB 2. Hosted by International School Manila, the online MUN was participated in by more than 250 delegates from 13 international and private schools who role-played delegates to the United Nations and simulated UN committees. At the end of the conference, outstanding delegates in each committee were recognized and given the award certificate.

Monarchs Win Big in Int’l Science and Math Competitions

Students from SISC raked in medals at the National Round of the 2021 Siam International Mathematics and Science Olympics (SIMSO) organized by the International Champions in Education, Inc. of Thailand. Winning a gold medal were Jenica Beatrice Roque and Archon Connor Sky Dolor of Gr. 3 – Courtesy, and Robert Jeremiah Rivera and Jiwon Jin of Gr. 10 – Commitment . Sky and Rivera also topscored in their age-based categories.
