Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) Artists Anonymous continues the second installment of its Masterclass Series with the timely topic “Media Literacy During Elections.” With the Presidential Elections fast approaching, the webinar taught participants how to apply critical thinking to media messages before voting.
The five guest speakers were Mr. Markneel Balgos (Communications Strategist/Advocacy Projects Developer), Ms. Julienne Thesa Baldo – Cubelo (Communication and Media Scholar), Ms. Jean Franco (Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, UP-Diliman), Ms. Therese Gonzaga (Creative Campaign Specialist and Content Producer at The Philippine Star.), and Ms. Janina Vela (Voter’s Education Advocate and Ambassador for Youtube Creators for Change Philippines).
The event’s objectives were clear and straightforward: raise political awareness, teach media literacy to guide voting decisions, and differentiate facts from fake news. A roundtable discussion on how to utilize news websites and social media platforms as a source of information the right way followed the talks.
