Those are just a few of the world’s elite that Southville International School and Colleges graduates have conquered. Within 25 years of existence, Southville has solidified their excellent track record in gaining acceptance into and graduating with honors from top local and foreign universities. And today, proud Monarch Arielle Nicole Papa will add Cardiff University to the growing list.

Arielle Nicole Papa graduated Second Class Honours with the degree of Bachelor of Economic and Social Studies in Politics and Economics in Cardiff University, United Kingdom last July 6, 2016.

In a special correspondence, Arielle shared that growing up with the Southville principles of 5Cs: Character, Competence, Creativity, Collaboration and Commitment to Achieve, help her overcome the challenging three years in Cardiff.

“In the face of immense pressure and uncertainty that came with undertaking a Bachelors degree abroad, the structure of Southville-International Baccalaureate classes helped me learn how to best manage my time; and the 5Cs of Southville shaped my attitude towards personal and professional pursuits. Character and Commitment to Achieve kept me grounded and focused.”

Arielle, who personifies Southville’s heart for the needy, plans to pursue a Master’s in Environment, Development, and Policy in the University of Sussex and gaining as much industry experience as possible before coming back to the Philippines.

“Whilst at university, I had developed an interest in international development–community (i.e. socioeconomic) and sustainable development in less-developed countries in particular. Thus I’ll be returning to the UK in September to pursue a Master’s in Environment, Development, and Policy in the University of Sussex. As a part of the course I’ll be doing a 12 week work placement in either Peru or Nicaragua, where I’m hoping to live and work in for the next decade or so. I’ll eventually look to moving back into the South East Asian region, and the Philippines after I’ve garnered enough experience in the industry.”

Though she believes that there is no one best way of studying, Arielle encourages her fellow Monarchs to open their eyes and know what they want.

“There’s no one foolproof method or plan when it comes to your studies, or anything else you’d be looking to pursue. What works for one person may not necessarily work as well for another, so figuring out how you best learn is the first step to making the most out of your education. Having something to work towards is also important as it provides the motivation and personal drive necessary to keep pushing ourselves to grow and improve. On the same note, knowing what you want–even just a vague idea of where you want to be, also unveils a myriad of opportunities that would’ve otherwise gone unnoticed.”

Arielle is a true testament of Southville’s unending commitment in preparing its students not only to be academic achievers but also to be leaders and movers of society with a heart.
