In celebration of Southville’s 25th Foundation Anniversary, the Basic Education department held a Kick-Off event last September 21, 2015 at the Monarchs Gym. Efren Peñaflorida, the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year and Founder of Kariton Klasrum, was the guest speaker. Mr. Peñaflorida shared to students from Grade 6 to 12 his advocacy of bringing education to out-of-school children. He also imparted four insightful key points and they are as follows:
• One is never too poor to think of ways to help others.
• One is never too ordinary to be a hero.
• One is never too young to give back to society.
• One is never too strong to do things on his own.
After Mr. Peñaflorida’s inspirational talk, Southville’s Chief Executive Mentor, Dr. Genevieve Ledesma-Tan, together with SISC President Dr. Marl V. Ferenal, Basic Education Principal Ms. Avic Suarez, Mr. Wallen Tan, Barangay BF/CAA Chairperson Mrs. Asuncion Aguilar, and Mr. Efren Peñaflorida, unveiled the kariton (pushcart) filled with books to officially launch “Poor Urban Child (POUCH) on Wheels.”
