Gen Mark Tanno, a 6th grade student of Southville International School and Colleges (SISC), qualified for the 2011 Young Mathematicians’ In-House Intensive Training Program (YMIITP) for elementary students held last March 21-24 in Naga City, Bicol. The YMIITP is a combination of lectures and exams in trigonometry, inequalities, quadratic equations, and other advanced topics.
A total of 800 participants all over the country joined the training program but only 104 math whizzes emerged as qualifiers after passing the battery of quizzes.
His feat made Gen Mark eligible for the training’s final phase known as the Mathematical Olympiad Summer Training Program (MOSTP) to be held on April 11 to May 13, 2011, under the coaching of well-known local and international mathematicians.
