Contestants from Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) received three High Distinction, four Distinction, and seven Credit Certificates in the 2013 University of New South Wales International Competition and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) in Mathematics.
Besides the Philippines, schools from Brunei, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, India, South Africa, Hong Kong, China, and the Pacific Region also participated.
Gwyneth Margaux Tangog of Gr. 4 – Humility, Gen Mark Tanno of Gr. 10 – Commitment, and Miguel Angelo Villar of Gr. 10 – Responsibility were named High Distinction awardees for belonging in the top 1% of the participants in their grade level.
The Distinction awardees who belong in the next 10% of their grade level are Henzor Vincent Dauigoy, Jee Seung Hong, Chan Hee Lee, and Jeremie Torralba.
Comprising the Credit awardees who belong in the next 25% are Terrence Cabana, Jae Hyo Jang, Rueben Byron Maat, Antwone Santino Ong, Bo Ra Sin, Hyun Geun Sin, and Hannah Trisha Gail Uy. Akisha Julianne Cu, Ju Yong Kim, and Chae Kyung Lee received Participation certificates.
The participants answered questions in Number and Arithmetic, Algebra and Patterns, Measures and Units, Space and Geometry, and Chance and Data to stimulate their interest and enthusiasm in problem solving and develop their mathematical intuition as well as logical thinking.
