Southville Hosts Intercollegiate Stock X Challenge Road Show

Southville International School and Colleges (SISC), given its strong advocacy of developing future capital and securities market participants, was chosen by First Metro Investment Corporation (FMIC), Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) and Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), to host the third in the series of nationwide road shows of the Intercollegiate Stock X Challenge.

Last August 28, 2012, business students from Lyceum of the Philippines – Laguna, ABE International Business College – Las Piñas, Immaculate Heart of Mary College – Parañaque, Southville Foreign University, and Southville International School and Colleges actively participated in a day of orientation, lecture, and workshop facilitated by Mr. Sandy Gilles, an investment consultant of First Metro. The awareness of students on savings and investments was raised through lecture-discussion and mind games.

Stock X Challenge, which debuted in 2010, is an online stock trading tournament accessible through the PSE official website. The competition provides players with real-world trading experience while using virtual money in the amount of P10 million for each team composed of 2-4 college students who are officially enrolled in the current academic year. The top three teams with highest stock portfolio will be awarded with cash and stock prizes.

In the first series of the competition, a team composed of BS Business Administration students representing Southville bested other 166 competing teams from renowned colleges and universities in the country, placing 2nd runner-up in the finals. The organizers estimate that during the 3rd series, more than 200 nationwide schools will participate in the stock trading competition.
