Ms. Rica Arevalo, whose film Ganap na Babae won an award for excellence in cinematography in the recently concluded Soho International Film Festival will be teaching Film Appreciation and Video Production to the Multimedia Arts students. Ms. Arevalo finished her bachelor’s degree at the De La Salle University with a degree in Communication Arts and her master’s degree Communication Management form the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
Not only is she the first Filipina to receive the Best Direction Award for ICU Bed #7 during the 2005 Cinemalaya Film Festival, she also went on to win second place at the 53rd Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 2003 for the same film.
She is the executive producer of the Cinemalaya box-office hit musical comedy, Saan Nagtatago si Happiness? and a co-screenwriter of National Artist Eddie Romero for Faces of Love in 2007, and Teach Me to Love in 2008.
Her short film, Gusto Kita Too was shot in California, USA tackling Pinoy-style teen courtship. She line-produced CinemaOne’s Si Baning, Si Maymay at ang Asong si Bobo. Her thesis film, Nag-aalinlangang Ina won Best Video Documentary in 1995 at the 9th CCP Award for Alternative Film and Video Competition. Her work has been widely recognized since then, like her animation film, Aninag sa Dapithapon in 1996 which competed at the Hiroshima in 1998, The 7th International Animation Festival Japan and the CINESTUD 2000 International Student Film Festival Amsterdam. Her short feature, Batang Maynila was screened at the 16th Singapore International Film Festival.
Among the other awards she has coveted are for her screenplays Mana in 1998 and Pamilya in 2000, which won 1st place and 3rd place respectively in the Film Development Foundation of the Philippines’ Scriptwriting contest.
Another extremely talented artist to teach Multimedia Arts this coming semester is Mr. Manolito “Noli” Agustin who will be handling freehand drawing and 3D Animation subjects. Educated in Russia, Mr. Agustin obtained his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from the Moscow University of Design (formerly Stroganovskoye) and his master’s degree in Industrial Design & Arts Criticism at Volokolamskoye Schausse, Moscow, Russia. He is also certified as an animator and a 3D Instructor.
It is actually Mr. Agustin’s first extended stay in the Philippines, having spent most of his professional years abroad. He has experienced working as a senior graphic artist at Dubai Television, as an animator training director at Quick start Animations, as an animation graphic artist at the Aghani Music Television in Dubai, and is currently a director/producer of the Malayan Multfilm and much more.He specializes in post production and can handle has had related experience in producing advertising campaigns, PR campaigns, video productions, animations, and other media related work.
