Southville Innove Student Wins International Golf Tourn

Southville Innove Student Abegail Arevalo won the SCPGA Junior Tour 15-18 Division, USA to bring pride to the Filipino People.
“I won not only for myself but for our country. I want to inspire my fellowmen and prove that despite all the tragedies and challenges we have been through like the recent storm, we can all do something great. I was almost losing but I remained steadfast and pushed my limits,” shared Abby.
A member of ICTSI, the official Philippine Golf Team, Abby has long dreamed of becoming the best junior golfer.
“I was six years old when I realized that I badly wanted to be the best golfer. Everyone in the family plays golf and they all made history and I was inspired to do better than them.”
Abby started hitting the ball at two and joined international competitions at six. It was her father who became her coach and trainer until she joined the Philippine team last year.
Despite her busy schedule traveling the world to join golf tournaments Abby still manages to study and is set to graduate next year.
“Southville has helped me a lot with the school’s INNOVE Program.  Ms. Gladys Mintu, the INNOVE Director, has always been there for me every since I enrolled in the INNOVE Class,” expressed Abby.
INNOVE Program is an alternative education solution offered by Southville to students who need a flexible learning environment. Students get to attend classes only twice a week for consultation and advising.
“Being in a different country with just my coaches and teammates, without my parents, is something not done by normal teenagers like me. We get to travel and do what we love out there, but when I get back to the Philippines, I become a regular student and INNOVE allows me to get a hold of Chemistry, English, Mathematics and all that.”
Abby started studying at Southville when she was in Grade School. She is currently scouting for universities in the US to pursue her college career.
“I know I will miss Southville especially the teachers. They can really be your best friends just like Sir Gary Gonzalo. He was never my teacher but I always bump into him. He never fails to give me good advice and always remind me that all my hard work would always pay-off and that I should always thank the Lord for all the blessings.”
