Jessica Zafra Hosts a Book Talk at Southville

Book lovers, bookworms, bibliophiles, writers, bloggers, and literature lovers of Southville International School and Colleges are all set to give renowned columnist, writer, and talk show host Jessica Zafra a warm welcome on September 21, 2016 as she talks about “TEN CLASSICS  FOR YOUNG ADULTS.”

Initiated by the SISC Library, the event is in support to the school’s commitment to promote reading, being the Center for Reading in the South. Further, it brings together people who share the same love for literature.

“We are happy that Ms. Zafra has blocked off her schedule for this symposium. This is an avenue for us to have an interactive analysis of literature and awaken the community’s love for writing and reading,” says Mr. Roderick Ramos, SISC College Library Head.

Southville has put value into reading. As young as preschool, students are taught reading through the school’s Comprehensive Development Reading Program (CDRP). As students progress they do not only improve their comprehension, but also develop their love for reading.

Ms. Zafra has written two collections of short stories, The Stories So Far and Manananggal Terrorizes Manila, as well as a dozen collections of essays on film, literature, travel, rock music, popular culture and politics. Many of these pieces appeared previously in her highly influential column Twisted, which appeared in the newspaper Today (1994-2004). Her essays have been published in the New Yorker, Newsweek, the HK Standard, and The National (Abu Dhabi).
