SOUTHVILLE MONARCHS AT THE NEW YORK TIMES WRITING COMPETITION

Three high school students from SISC were named finalists in the secondary school category of the 2018 New York Times Asia-Pacific Writing Competition. The essays of Miguel Dominico Alzona, Akisha Julianne Cu and Vincent Romero were among the 30 finalists chosen out of thousands of entries submitted to the regional essay competition.

Responding to the question “Can people still achieve a better life through migration?”, Alzona wrote a 500-word opinion piece entitled “Africa’s Curtain Call,” Cu penned “The Elusive Dream of Migrants” and Romero composed “Immigration, The New Colossus.”

Southville Monarchs Win at International Math-Science Competition

Southville Students brought home medals from the 15th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary School Students (IMSO) held last Sept. 28 to Oct. 4 in Zhejiang, China. Ervin Joshua Bautista of Gr. 6 – Perseverance won the Philippines’ lone gold medal in Science while Kristner Sheyn Saludo of Gr. 5 – Loyalty scored a silver medal also in Science.

Monarchs Bring A-game to Model United Nation Event

Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) joins other top international schools in the country in the recently concluded Model United Nations (MUN) Local 2018, a forum for high school students to debate on current global issues and gain insights into the world of international politics and decision-making. The event was held last September 28-29 with four hundred delegates participating.

In pursuit of its advocacy to raise awareness about mental health, the Psychology Society of Southville International School and Colleges (SISC), will conduct a talk on the current updates regarding suicide prevention and approaches to battling mental and emotional struggles on October 16, 2018, 1:00PM, at Luxembourg Hall.

Held in partnership with the Human Resources Society and INK Society, the event will focus particularly on STIGMA as the next battle for mental health. Southville Monarchs Shine in International Science Assessment

Students of Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) received awards in the 2018 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) – Science that drew over one million student entries from more than twenty countries. Ervin Joshua Bautista of Gr. 6 – Perseverance, Robert Jeremiah Rivera of Gr. 7 – Resilience, and Gwyneth Margaux Tangog of Gr. 9 – Compassion were awarded the High Distinction Certificate for placing in the top 1% of all participants in their level. September 9 was, to put it simply, a walk to remember. The Grandparents’ Day celebration aptly titled “Heart and Sole”, was held in the Atrium of Ayala Alabang Town Center. It was well-attended by many a doting grandparent and not one frown was present in the crowd. Taking the reins of the celebration was Southville International School’s very own BS Nursing students, with their animated hosting and boundless energy, they effectively kept spirits up for the entire morning. Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) held its School Spirit Week last September 17 – 21, 2018 to unify the student body and create a greater sense of school spirit. SISFU Partner University DMU named University of the Year

De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester, UK, one of the partner educational institutions of Southville International School Affiliated with Foreign University (SISFU), has been named University of the Year for Social Inclusion by The Sunday Times Good University Guide.

DMU was chosen due to its diverse population and the success of its students in exams and graduate job prospects. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dominic Shellard said that the award is a recognition of DMU as an institution where all staff and students are afforded the respect, inspiration, space and support to reach their full potential.
