Manila, Philippines — Ervin Joshua Bautista, a student from Southville International School and Colleges, has made the nation proud by securing an Honourable Mention at the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). The prestigious competition took place in Bath, United Kingdom, last July.
The IMO, renowned as the largest and most prestigious of all International Olympiads in Mathematics, attracted 609 students from 108 countries. Each participating country sends up to six of its brightest young minds in mathematics to compete. These teams are meticulously selected through a year-long process of contests, training, and rigorous team selection tests.
Ervin Joshua Bautista’s achievement reflects not only his exceptional mathematical prowess but also the dedication and hard work of the Philippine Team. The team’s journey began with the two-month-long Mathematical Olympiad Summer Camp, where they honed their skills and prepared for the global stage.
Notably, Ervin Joshua Bautista is a Southville homegrown talent who has consistently excelled in various math contests over the years. His performance at the IMO adds another feather to his cap and underscores the importance of nurturing young mathematical talent in the Philippines.
“After 14 years of studying in Southville, We can say that Southville has shaped Josh to become what he is now. Southville instilled in him the values of grit and growth mindset that pushed him to achieve what he has so far.
The school provided many avenues in which Josh was able to find his love and enthusiasm for mathematics and problem-solving like the Advanced Learning Program and Tug-Of-Wits.
And lastly, We will always be grateful to the dedicated grade school teachers who went out of their way to give guidance and send off trainings.”
