Southville International School and Colleges takes pride in congratulating John Ross “Joross” Gamboa, AB Communication student, for winning the Best Supporting Actor Award in the 2012 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. Cinemalaya is a film competition and festival that aims to encourage the creation of new cinematic works by Filipino filmmakers – works that boldly articulate and freely interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity.
Joross played the role of Bertong Baka, an out-of-school youth who is quiet but filled with angst, in the film Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino. This full-length indie film, which falls under the New Breed Category, is adapted from Eros Atalia’s 2001 Palanca Grand Prize Short Story. Joross shares that he was not expecting the award as he deviated in his typical humorist role throwing witty punch lines, but he was grateful that his challenging character in Intoy Syokoy had taken his acting into a more mature level.
Congratulations, Joross! Your Southville family is truly proud of you.
