When the country was hit by an unusual southwest monsoon recently, the Business Education students of Southville International School and Colleges took the challenge they learned in their subjects on Corporate Social Responsibility and the IC subjects on Values and Leadership by bravely launching their “Sulong sa Pagtulong” project which is a relief operation effort giving assistance to the families in South Metro who were affected by the calamity. The project was launched in cooperation with the following student organizations under the College of Business Administration: Southville International Junior Marketing Association (SIJMA), Global Entrepreneurial Movement of Southville (GEMS), Junior Capital Market Institute of the Philippines (JCMIP), and Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA). The “Sulong sa Pagtulong” was achieved through accepting donations in cash and in kind. SIJMA spearheaded the project and since August 9, 2012 collected and accepted donations from generous benefactors. Monetary donations were used to purchase grocery items, such as food and toiletries which were packed in each relief package containing clothes, bottled water, crackers, instant noodles and canned goods. Within three days, the Business student volunteers were able to pack more than 600 packages for distribution. The beneficiaries of “Sulong sa Pagtulong” are families in Muntinlupa who are evacuated at the Alabang Elementary School. (*Note from the authors: This beautiful experience will forever be in our hearts and gave us the happiness that is priceless. We would like to thank all the donors to this relief operation, to Mr. Aris Lacuna of the Student Affairs Office for his guidance, and to our dean and instructors of the College of Business Administration for their support and inspiration.- Joane Faye Bistayan – BSBA Marketing Management IV & Maria Johara Galvez – BSBA Marketing Management IV)
